Komainu are Japanese stone statues, often placed at the entrances of shrines or temples. These statues symbolize protection and are considered guardians of sacred places in Japanese culture. They represent the connection between the earthly world and the spiritual realm. The taiko (Japanese drum) on the Komainu is said to repel evil.
